Watabaran targets the problems
Watabaran is a Nepalese company working with fair trade. Watabaran means "enviornment" in Nepali. We recycle paper and produce paper products for companies and organizations that wish to profile themselves ethically. Our business is built upon the values of social and environmental responsibility.

The company is situated in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, a city that has great problems with pollution. There is garbage in every street corner, spreading diseases among people and animals; the water is so polluted, it is undrinkable. Other problems faced are high rates of unemployment and poverty; many families can not even afford to send their children to school. Watabaran was created as a response to these problems.

We continuously carry out environment analysis of our activities and try to stand out as a pioneer and good example for other Nepalese companies. We invest in our personnel and their working conditions; having salaries well above average, health insurances, guarantee for paid maternity leave, trade union rights and continuous education. All the employees are involved in decision making and share responsibilities, own initiatives are always encouraged.

Nepalese handicraft and Swedish design integrated
Our products are developed in a close collaboration with Swedish designers. Together we work to create products that are unique, modern and at the same time that helps our customers strengthen their ethical profile. Every year we have at least one new exclusive design to offer.

Social responsibility pays off
Our aim is to create a positive and sustainable development in the community we live in. We believe that this is best done by developing the capacity of the people. We primarily invest in education since not all of us have finished a formal education and it is the stepping stone towards the company's development. Everyone participates in English and computer classes, a necessity if we want to reach the international market and manage customer relations. Further, we specialize in different areas of expertise, from economy and marketing to digital design and production techniques.

Education and trainings are not only important - it's profitable as well. Every rupee and every hour that we have spent on educating and democratically influencing our employees has paid off shortly. The quality of our products keeps improving as a result of the progressive communication, motivation and new ideas.
